He's Here!

Well-things don't always turn out exactly how you plan them! Camden Douglass arrived 3 weeks early on January 20th, 2010 at 2:47 p.m.

The labor was actually pretty quick and definitely not as painful as I was anticipating (after the epidural)!

Needless to say, I left a lot of things undone with my students at school and am looking forward to seeing them soon. My maternity leave is almost up and although I hate to leave Camden, I'm excited for Kent to get to spend the quality time that I got with him.

I cannot wait for summer. I see many walks in our future- this cold weather has made it pretty difficult to get out and about with Camden!

Week 36

We just returned from the doctor. Everything is progressing as it should be. Doctor Martin says our boy now weighs about 5.5 lbs.

I will go back in 2 weeks and from there on out I will be seeing him weekly. The end is in sight!

Kent and I are very excited to see our boy. The holidays were a big reminder of how great family is and how wonderful next Christmas will be with a new addition to our family!

I am feeling uncomfortable and tired, but the excitement of knowing that his birth is just around the corner is giving me enough energy to get through it.

I'm hoping there are no snow days this week-I really want to spend this last month with my students working to get as much done as we can (there's a lot!).

Week 33

Well... We are entering week 33 this week. I am feeling very anxious and excited to meet our baby boy!

We have pretty much completed his nursery and are excited to have a few upcoming showers in our future.

I have been feeling pretty good the last couple of weeks, although sleeping has been a pretty uncomfortable event. My stomach is now stretched to what I thought would be its full capacity, but I am sure I've got quite a bit of stretching left to do! Baby boy has made sure I do not forget he is inside me growing! His jabs and kicks can sometimes be a little painful, but a fun reminder that he is growing and doing well.

Kent and I are both looking forward to Christmas and the chance to spend more time with family. It is such fun time! We even purchased a few presents for our boy. Kent's favorite is a pair of slip on, black and white checkered sneakers. They are super adorable.

Here's what he's up to this month:

Baby's now the size of a honeydew!
Things are heating up inside as well: Baby may grow up to a full inch this week alone, and his brain is developing like crazy. Pretty soon, he'll be able to coordinate breathing with sucking and swallowing. Also, his bones are hardening, and he's started to keep his eyes open when he's awake.

Week 30

We have officially entered our thirtieth week today! I went to the doctor this morning after having to chug 10 oz. of Glucola so they can test for gestational diabetes. It wasn't as bad as I had heard.

Our doctor informed us that baby's head is down already. He said he must be a smart boy to be getting himself ready for his entrance into the world so soon. I tend to agree. I'm pretty sure our boy will be a smart one!

I am getting bigger by the day, but am enjoying it. I love feeling his kicks and other movements. He is VERY active!

Kent and I can't wait to see him! It's becoming more real and so exciting every day!

Baby's now the size of a squash!
As baby's skin smooths out, his brain just keeps getting more wrinkled. All those grooves and indentations increase surface area, meaning more room for that oh-so-essential brain tissue. He's also adding some brawn -- his grip is now strong enough to grasp a finger.

Week 27

Well...we had another appointment last week. We had our second ultrasound so they could get an even better look at baby's spine. The ultrasound technician said everything was looking perfect.

Doctor says I'm growing normally and everything seems to be moving along smoothly.

I, on the other hand, have been sick for the last month. I have had a cold I can't get rid of along with a sore throat, heartburn, and horrible cough. I am hoping I can get rid of this soon. It's really taking its toll.

My next appointment includes me chugging 10 oz. of glucola, which will help the doctor see if I have gestational diabetes. I have been told this is not fun and I am not really looking forward to it!

The nursery is coming along so well. For the first time in our co-habitating, the house is organized, thanks in large part to Kent. He has been working hard to get things ready for baby! Now that the nursery is coming together, it makes me want to meet our baby boy even more. I can't wait!

Week 23

It's hard to believe I am more than halfway through this pregnancy, but by the looks of my stomach it's obvious! I am growing every day! I am now feeling some effects of my growing midsection: putting on socks and tying my shoes are just two of the daily tasks that have become a little trickier! I am loving every minute of it, though!

Kent and I were able to go on a mini shopping spree. We got some super cute clothes for Baby Boy Herzog. He is going to be one sharp dressed newborn!

I go back to the doctor on the 29th and will have another ultrasound so that they can get a better picture of his spine. They didn't quite get the picture of it that they wanted. They would just like to rule out the possibility of spina bifida.

I hope everyone is doing well! I am looking forward to a couple days off next week after a couple of LONG conference days!

Ultrasound

We had our 20 week ultrasound which soon turned into our 22 week ultrasound! My due date has been moved up to February 8, 2010.

Baby Herzog cooperated today and let us know that baby blue is in our future. He's a boy!

Kent and I are both very excited and cannot wait to meet him!

He is 1 pound 2 ounces and 11 inches long.
